The things that go unnoticed…

By:  Progress for Westhampton Beach

Only 4%.  There is a tradition that continues in this nation and our community and that is scouting.  Adults in our community see the value in supporting the growth and maturation of our young people.

This commitment to our youth goes on week in and week out and largely goes unnoticed.  Something happened this week that should have more notice.  A resident of Westhampton Beach became an Eagle Scout…

An Important Accomplishment

Only 4% of the boys who join scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  If you wonder what makes an Eagle Scout, a good place to look are the bedrock principals of scouting.

The Scout Law.  A Scout is:  Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.

The Scout motto:  Be prepared.

The Scout promise:  On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country; To obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Some scoff at such things, at least until it is time to wonder whether the person they are relying upon and who stands next to them in daily life subscribes to these principles.

On Thursday night in a small room in village hall a young man marked a milestone in his life, and in the life of our community.  We should take notice and congratulate Sal DiBenedetto on becoming an Eagle Scout.1)27east published today that Danny Strebel also has become an Eagle Scout Sal is joining Luke Dalton and Thomas Montagna who were inducted in May.  Good job Sal.
