PD Accreditation is not a Fresh Idea.  For years now, the Mayor and the Board of Trustees have agreed that our Police Department needs to gain accreditation.

Accreditation is provided by the New York State Division of Criminal Justices Services (DCJS) Accreditation is not  just a gold star.  It involves the adoption of rules, procedures, and standards that permit a police department to function at the highest level of law enforcement.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services is an extraordinary resource that, as State taxpayers, we already fund.  It is time to put it to full use. In the process of gaining accreditation our department can be assured that it is operating in compliance with all laws, and is using best practices in law enforcement.

This helps to protect our officers from personal liability and helps to insulate our village from  law suits as well. Most importantly, our officers will be prepared to confidently serve the Village when the challenge arises.  This would be Progress for Westhampton Beach.
